Transport in Hampi

Hampi is a village of ruins in the northern part of Karnataka. Hospet is the nearest town to Hampi, so we can travel from all over India or outside to Hospet. We can connect aross through the bus or trains to Hospet. There are many buses to Hospet from other parts of the Karnataka State, usually KSTRC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) Once in Hospet there are major two ways to reach Hampi, either by a local bus or by auto-rickshaw(3-wheeler taxi) which will drop one at the hampi bust stand in the middle of the Hampi site. The auto rikshaw charges about Rs 100 to Rs 200. The real pleasure to visit through Hampi is by walking or cycling. Virtually all the rocks in hampi have a story to tell  and walking and hearing to a guide will be the best idea.

Hampi By Bicycle

Bicycles are given for rent in Hampi to  go sightseeing. They provide you with a helmet and a lock for Rs 30/- per day. It is the best way to move around Hampi slowly if one likes to know and relish the culture and history of Hampi This  does not cost you much too. Another option is to travel by the rickshaw without climbing the hill stone gets to see the full of Hampi if bargained one can go around for Rs 300-500, and hire a official Karnataka Travel guide  you can see all the places in Hampi with proper explanations and they take you to the right places without wasting much time.

Hampi By Motorcycle

While travelling within Hampi, suppose the weather is hot and dry and visit from one site to another goes beyond 5 kms , it is difficult to walk for a visitor then you can hire a motorcycle to explore Hampi in an easy way. Places where your autorickshaw cannot take you the bike can be used. Guides do accompany you along or drive behind. Although this is a little more expensive option one can cover more places without hurry  and with freedom. A bike like scooty or kinetic Honda will cost Rs 150/- per day and 100cc bike for Rs. 200/- per day Fuel charges are extra.

Hampi By Car

Bit more expensive but luxury is travelling by car. Various car rentals are available in Hospet normally they charge around Rs 750/- to Rs. 1000/- for a day of sight seeing. And pick up and drop to the stations. The ruins of hampi is located within 30 sqkms area While most of the roads are motorable roads and they can ride on smoothly.

Hampi By boat

Since River Tungabhadra passes in Hampi there comes many occasions when one has to cross the river and visit the monuments or temples across the river. To see Virupur Gadde one has to cross the river by motor boat which charges Rs 10/- for locals and Rs. 15/- for tourists. The boat runs till 6 p.m. If one does not want to cross the river we have to go the long route Hospet-Hugili-Hanumanahalli which is 40km tour. During the rainy season the gates of Tungahadra Dam are opened which increases the water level in the river which makes it difficult to cross the river.
